The Big Impact: Creating Community with Group Mentoring
How Group Mentoring Builds Confidence and Connection
At Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Simcoe, mentorship takes many forms and not all of them are one-to-one.
Through group-based programs like Game On!, Go Girls!, and Big Bunch, local youth are connecting with mentors, making new friends, building confidence, and learning new skills, all while having fun in a safe and welcoming environment.
Whether it’s a night of sports and snacks at Game On!, a confidence-building activity through Go Girls!, or an adventure with Big Bunch, these programs create opportunities for youth to grow socially and emotionally in a group setting. They also provide a gateway to mentorship for those who may not be ready for or suited to a traditional one-to-one match.
Many of our group programs are offered at no cost and are led by trained staff and volunteers who serve as positive role models. The experiences shared during these programs can have a lasting impact, often sparking deeper connections and helping youth build the confidence to open up, try new things, and discover their potential.
In addition to group mentoring, BBBSNS also brings the wider community together through larger events like our Annual BBQ, which offers a fun-filled day of games, food, and celebration. These moments remind us that mentoring is about creating a caring network that surrounds young people with support.
Whether through a structured program or a joyful community gathering, BBBSNS is proud to offer many ways for youth to feel seen, supported, and celebrated.
