Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Simcoe offers both Individual and Group Based Mentoring Programs to over 200 young people across North Simcoe Communities. Currently of the young people we serve, 15 of them are matched #Littles in the 1:1 Mentoring Program.

The 1:1 Mentoring Program matches #Bigs and #Littles together who have similar interests and corresponding personalities. They spend 2 to 4 hours every week sharing interests, exploring their communities, and developing new skills! What seems simple has proven to make a #BigDifference in that young persons life, and in turn for the Big as well.

In fact on a social return on investment study it showed the following:

– 63% of them have post secondary education
– 17% of them are more likely to be employed
– 47% of them hold leadership positions
– 80% say they pursue healthy lifestyles
– 94% say the make good life choices
– 96% of them say the are happy

For every dollar that is invested in our young people and our programming, $18 is return into our communities through happy, healthy, civic minded, and engaged adults. Our current amount of matches is the highest number of matches we have had at one time in ten years ! We are so grateful that these young people have the opportunity to have this #intentionalmentoring, but we still have work to do.

Currently the barriers to matching our remaining 28 youth on the waiting list is the cost to process a match and the amount of Bigs available to mentor. Did you know it costs a $1000 to process a intake ? Did you know that of the 28 young people waiting to be matched, 24 of them are young males ?

That is why Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Simcoe is challenging our community to participate in the 25 for 25 Challenge. From December 1st to December 25th we are asking of our community to either donate $25.00 on one of these days or to join our agency as a Big. Our goal is to be at a minimum of 25 matches by July 25th, 2020. If we have four donations a day we can process two new Little’s into a 1:1 Match. If we have 25 inquiries for Big’s, we change 25 lives.

Take the Challenge! Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, & Twitter ; Like, Share, & Comment on our posts and encourage others to donate, sign up, and do the same. We cannot do what we do without our community so thank you for your contribution, not matter how you make it.
